Australia's minimum wage from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage is $26.44 per hour or $1,004.90 per week for a 38-hour week. Minimum award wages increased by 4.75%.

What changed?

The new rates apply from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2026. Casual employees who are entitled to the National Minimum Wage receive at least $33.05 per hour, including the 25% casual loading.

Who does the National Minimum Wage apply to?

It generally applies to employees who are not covered by an award or registered agreement. Many Australian workers are instead covered by a modern award, which can set higher minimum rates, penalty rates and allowances.

What Melbourne workers should do

Check the award that applies to your role and use the Fair Work Ombudsman's Pay and Conditions Tool. Employers should also make sure payroll systems reflect the updated rates from the correct pay period.
